OSU’s Baseball Stars Shine in MLB Draft: What’s Next for Schubart and Holliday?

Oklahoma State University witnessed a notable moment in the MLB Draft as junior Nolan Schubart was selected by the Cleveland Guardians with the 101st overall pick in the third round. Schubart has solidified his legacy at OSU by ranking fourth all-time in the program with 59 home runs, demonstrating remarkable power with a home run occurring every 10 at-bats. He also boasts an impressive career slugging percentage of .705 and has driven in 199 RBIs, placing him ninth and tenth on the respective OSU all-time lists.

Last season, Schubart showcased his talents by starting in every game and earning a spot on the All-Big 12 honorable mention team. His performance was highlighted by 57 RBIs and 19 home runs, achieving a batting average of .300.

Interestingly, Schubart was not the first player with OSU connections to be drafted this year. That honor went to Ethan Holliday from Stillwater, who was selected fourth overall by the Colorado Rockies. Ethan, the nephew of OSU head coach Josh Holliday, signed with OSU during his senior season, and his successful drafting marks a significant step for him. He expressed his excitement about joining the Rockies, stating, “The Rockies are an incredible organization… I am super juiced and just so grateful for this opportunity.”

Ethan had an extraordinary senior season, finishing with a .617 batting average, a .737 on-base percentage, and a staggering slugging percentage of 1.309, along with 16 home runs and eight doubles in just 81 at-bats, while also earning 37 walks.

This year’s MLB Draft has proven to be a significant milestone for both Schubart and Holliday, highlighting the rising talent from Oklahoma State and the promising future that awaits these young players in professional baseball. Their successes not only underscore the strength of the OSU baseball program but also represent hope for the next generation of athletes from the region.
