Wunmi Mosaku has received an Oscar nomination for her outstanding performance in Ryan Coogler’s vampire drama, “Sinners.” The British-Nigerian actress is recognized in the Best Supporting Actress category and will face tough competition from Elle Fanning and Inga Ibsdotter Lilleaas for “Sentimental Value,” Amy Madigan for “Weapons,” and Teyana Taylor for “One Battle After Another.”
Notably, Jonny Greenwood, the frontman of the band Radiohead, has also received a nomination for Best Original Score for “One Battle After Another.” Greenwood was previously nominated for his work on “Phantom Thread” and “The Power of the Dog,” further solidifying his status in the industry.
Although Irish actor Paul Mescal was anticipated to be nominated for his role in “Hamnet,” he did not make the cut for the Best Supporting Actor category. However, he is recognized alongside his co-star Jessie Buckley, who is a frontrunner for Best Actress for her portrayal of Shakespeare’s wife, Agnes Hathaway. Buckley has already garnered several accolades this awards season, including the Golden Globe and Critics’ Choice awards.
Filmmaker Chloe Zhao is projected to earn recognition in the Best Director category, following her historic win for “Nomadland” in 2021, becoming the second woman and first woman of color to take home the Oscar.
“Hamnet” is also in the running for a Best Picture nomination, but will have to contend with other strong contenders such as “One Battle After Another” and Paul Thomas Anderson’s film featuring Leonardo DiCaprio, who is another expected nominee for Best Actor for his role as a troubled revolutionary.
The 95th Academy Awards will be hosted by Conan O’Brien, set to take place in Hollywood on March 15. The nominations were revealed by Danielle Brooks and Lewis Pullman, setting the stage for an exciting awards season. The diversity and talent represented in this year’s nominations highlight a rich and inclusive industry, promising a night of celebration and recognition for remarkable achievements in film.
