In a tragic incident early Saturday morning, two individuals lost their lives, and seven others sustained injuries during a shooting in downtown Orlando, according to the Orlando Police Department. The shooting occurred around 1:07 a.m. at the intersection of Central Boulevard and Orange Avenue, prompting swift police response. Witnesses reported that after one victim collapsed, the suspect fled the scene along with companions, leading to further chaos.
Shortly thereafter, authorities received another call concerning a shooting near Washington Street and Orange Avenue, where another victim was fatally wounded. A 17-year-old suspect was apprehended shortly after the incidents; however, the names of the deceased, aged 25 and 19, have not yet been released.
A total of nine individuals were transported to Orlando Regional Medical Center for treatment. The range of injuries among the remaining survivors includes gunshot wounds to the leg and hand, a grazing wound to the head, and injuries sustained from trampling, with two victims reportedly in critical condition.
Orlando Police Chief Eric Smith commended his officers for their prompt action in apprehending the suspect amidst a Halloween crowd of approximately 50,000 to 100,000 people in the area. Smith noted that while panic ensued, officers were strategically positioned, allowing them to effectively locate and neutralize the threat.
