Orioles-Twins Showdown Delayed: What to Expect in the Make-Up Doubleheader!

The baseball matchup between the Orioles and the Twins has been postponed tonight due to unfavorable weather conditions. This game will now be rescheduled for Wednesday as part of a traditional doubleheader, with the first game kicking off at 12:05 p.m. Due to another weather forecast indicating potential challenges, the second game is set to start approximately 30 minutes after the conclusion of the opener. Fans can enter the stadium beginning at 11 a.m., and both games will be available for viewing on MASN2.

As a result of this change, original ticket holders for tonight’s game are advised to visit Orioles.com/Weather for guidance. Tickets for Wednesday’s originally scheduled 6:35 p.m. game will be valid for both contests in the doubleheader.

This incident marks the Orioles’ third postponement so far this season, with two occurring at their home stadium. Previously, they participated in a doubleheader in Detroit.

Notably, the Orioles have not yet released their lineup, but Ryan Mountcastle has been a significant player to watch. He owns a 14-game hitting streak against the Twins, boasting an impressive career average of .359 and a slugging percentage of .654 against them. Among active major leaguers with at least 50 at-bats against the Twins, only Randy Arozarena and Freddie Freeman have similarly impressive statistics.

Cade Povich was slated to pitch tonight against the Twins, a team he previously played for before a trade at the 2022 deadline. In his last outing at Target Field, Povich allowed five runs over six innings, while Carlos Correa significantly impacted the game with a two-run homer. For the doubleheader, Povich and Dean Kremer are expected to take the mound.

Against Povich this season, right-handed batters have had a solid performance, hitting .322 with an OPS of .928, while left-handed batters have been held to .200 with a .565 OPS. In addition, the Orioles have struggled with a .189 batting average with runners in scoring position, the lowest in Major League Baseball, coupled with a significant 26.6 percent strikeout rate in similar situations.

On the other side, the Orioles will face Twins right-hander Simeon Woods Richardson, who previously allowed two runs and five hits against them. Ramón Laureano has fared well against Richardson, hitting a solo home run in their last encounter. Richardson has demonstrated strong performance during day games, posting a 2.40 ERA, contrasting with a higher 5.30 ERA in night games.

Meanwhile, the Twins are currently enjoying an eight-game winning streak and are coming off a sweep of the Orioles last week, now holding a record of 21-20. They have struggled away from home, with a 6-14 road record, not achieving a winning record on the road since 2019. Their pitching staff remains strong, with a rotation ERA of 3.36, ranking fifth in the league, and a bullpen ERA of 3.27, placing them eighth.

In a related development, Double-A Chesapeake has placed right-hander Patrick Reilly, the No. 10 prospect in their system, on the full-season injured list due to right elbow discomfort. Additionally, outfielder Enrique Bradfield Jr., the No. 3 prospect, has been transferred to High-A Aberdeen for his rehab assignment.

With the anticipation of the doubleheader on Wednesday, there is hope that both teams can provide an exciting matchup and possibly turn around early-season struggles, particularly for the Orioles who are looking to capitalize on significant player strengths.
