Oregon Soars to No. 2: Shocking Poll Shifts After Historic Win

Oregon has climbed to No. 2 in the Coaches Poll for the first time since 2014 following its historic victory over Ohio State, marking the program’s first win against a top-two opponent. Meanwhile, Texas remains firmly in the top position after securing 53 of 55 first-place votes.

Penn State has also moved up, surpassing Georgia to claim the No. 3 spot after the Bulldogs experienced a tough 41-31 win against Mississippi State. Georgia remains at No. 4, while Ohio State fell three places to No. 5 due to its narrow defeat against Oregon. Additionally, LSU at No. 8 and Clemson at No. 9 have both surpassed Tennessee to re-enter the top 10.

In notable movements, Army has made its way back into the poll for the first time since 2018, achieving a perfect 6-0 record with a decisive 44-10 victory over UAB. This marks the first time Army started a season 6-0 since 1945, a year when the team won a national championship and produced Heisman Trophy winner Doc Blanchard. Nebraska has also returned to the rankings, coming in at No. 25.

In the Week 8 Coaches Poll, Oklahoma and Utah dropped out of the rankings. Other teams receiving votes include Oklahoma with 81, Arizona State with 49, Navy with 37, Utah with 31, Vanderbilt with 26, Syracuse with 13, UNLV with 12, Iowa with 12, Texas Tech with 9, Liberty with 9, Washington State with 8, Memphis with 4, Louisville with 4, James Madison with 3, and Tulane with 2.
