Oregon has made a significant leap to No. 2 in the Coaches Poll for the first time since 2014, following their historic victory over Ohio State, marking the program’s first win against a top-two opponent. Meanwhile, Texas maintained its lead at No. 1, earning 53 of the 55 first-place votes.
Penn State has risen to No. 3 in the rankings, surpassing Georgia, which struggled to secure a 41-31 win against Mississippi State and remained at No. 4. Ohio State fell three spots to No. 5 after a narrow loss to Oregon. Additionally, No. 8 LSU and No. 9 Clemson both surpassed Tennessee to re-enter the top 10.
In notable movements within the poll, Army has made its first appearance since 2018, achieving a perfect 6-0 record after a decisive 44-10 win over UAB. This marks Army’s best start to a season since 1945, when they went on to win a national championship and produced Heisman Trophy winner Doc Blanchard. Nebraska also returned to the rankings, coming in at No. 25.
In the Week 8 Coaches Poll, Oklahoma and Utah have dropped out of the rankings. Other teams receiving votes include Oklahoma (81), Arizona State (49), Navy (37), Utah (31), Vanderbilt (26), Syracuse (13), UNLV (12), Iowa (12), Texas Tech (9), Liberty (9), Washington State (8), Memphis (4), Louisville (4), James Madison (3), and Tulane (2).
