“OpenAI CEO Turns Heads with Rare Sports Car Drive, Elon Musk Reacts”

OpenAI CEO Sam Altman was seen driving a rare Swedish sports car over the weekend, leading to widespread envy on social media and irritation from his former friend Elon Musk.

Altman, 39, is a renowned car enthusiast with a collection that includes a McLaren and a Koenigsegg Regera. He and his husband, engineer Oliver Mulherin, even enjoyed driving sports cars around a Dubai race track during a business trip in April, as highlighted in a recent Wall Street Journal profile.

The Koenigsegg Regera brought Altman into the social media spotlight this weekend. TikTok user and car enthusiast Joseph Velyan first shared a video of the luxury vehicle in April after spotting it on the streets of Napa.

“I’ve been into cars almost my whole life, and seeing a Koenigsegg was definitely a dream of mine — especially in public,” Velyan told Business Insider. “I go to car events and see some pretty rare cars often, but this is for sure the rarest one I’ve seen, and it caught my eye right away.”

Velyan initially posted the footage of the Koenigsegg on his Instagram and TikTok accounts in April but recently reposted the videos upon recognizing Altman behind the wheel.

The video was also shared on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter.

“CEO @OpenAI driving one of the most expensive cars,” the account Tesla Owners of Silicon Valley posted. “How did open AI become a for-profit business when it was a non-profit?”

Shortly afterward, Musk responded, “great question.” Musk had sued OpenAI earlier this year, accusing Altman of straying from the company’s original mission of being a nonprofit focused on advancing human life in favor of profits. OpenAI dismissed Musk’s complaints as “frivolous.”
