Olympic gold medalists including Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone, Sha’Carri Richardson, and Quincy Hall are set to compete at the highly anticipated Prefontaine Classic this Saturday, July 5, at 4 p.m. ET. The event will take place at the Historic Hayward Field at the University of Oregon in Eugene, Oregon, and will be broadcast live on NBC and Peacock.
The Prefontaine Classic is the sole U.S. event on the prestigious Diamond League circuit, and it is well-known for attracting top international talent. McLaughlin-Levrone, a four-time Olympic gold medalist and the current world record holder in the 400m hurdles, is expected to compete in the 400m event. She recorded an impressive personal best of 48.74 seconds—a time that stands as the second-fastest in U.S. history—at the same venue in 2023.
In her Olympic debut, Richardson made headlines by securing a gold medal in the 4x100m relay and a silver in the 100m. She will headline a formidable field in the women’s 100m that includes Paris Olympic 100m podium finishers Julien Alfred from Saint Lucia and American Melissa Jefferson-Wooden. In the men’s 100m, silver medalist Kishane Thompson will compete against two-time world medalist Trayvon Bromell.
The men’s 200m will showcase another rematch from the Paris Olympics, featuring gold medalist Letsile Tebogo from Botswana and bronze medalist Kenny Bednarek, who recently had an outstanding Grand Slam track season.
The Bowerman Mile will see reigning Olympic gold medalist in the 1500m, Cole Hocker, alongside impressive competitors like Paris bronze medalist Yared Nuguse, Grant Fisher (who also earned bronze in the 5000m/10,000m), and world champion Jake Wightman from Great Britain.
Additional headliners include Olympic champions Mondo Duplantis (pole vault) and Faith Kipyegon (1500m). U.S. gold medalists Rai Benjamin (400m hurdles), Quincy Hall (400m), Athing Mu-Nikolayev (800m), and Tara Davis-Woodhall (long jump) are also among the expected competitors.
The broadcast team for NBC Sports will feature Leigh Diffey as the host, supported by analysts Ato Boldon, Kara Goucher, and Trey Hardee, with Lewis Johnson reporting from the field.
Following the Prefontaine Classic, NBC Sports will also present the USATF Outdoor Championships from August 2-3 and the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo, set to take place from September 13-21.
This event promises to deliver thrilling competition and an exciting atmosphere, as some of the fastest athletes in the world gather to showcase their talent. Fans can look forward to an action-packed day of athletics.
