Olympic swimmer Ryan Lochte and his wife Kayla Reid are embroiled in a contentious divorce, with significant financial troubles coming to light. The couple reportedly owes nearly $270,000 in various debts, which includes approximately $100,000 owed to the IRS.

Kayla initiated the divorce proceedings in March, citing that their marriage is “irretrievably broken.” In his April response, Lochte contested several aspects of her petition, particularly regarding the custody arrangements for their three children – Caiden Zane, seven; Liv Rae, five; and Georgia June, one. He disputes Kayla’s claims that she should have sole parental responsibility and argues that the children are not predominantly in her care.

Her divorce filing highlights her need for financial assistance to enhance her skills through education and training, a factor that she believes is essential for her financial stability. The couple’s financial issues are compounded by tax liens, with the IRS citing the pair for unpaid taxes from both 2021 and 2022, totaling $99,696.09. Further complicating their financial situation, Shands Teaching Hospital filed liens against them for unpaid medical bills, totaling over $167,000.

In addition to their tax and medical debts, the couple has also faced challenges pertaining to their marital assets. Lochte has moved out of their shared home in Gainesville, which they purchased for $548,000 in 2021, and is now renting a property nearby. He also contends that Kayla does not require exclusive access to the home they shared.

Despite the turmoil, Lochte remains committed to resolving the issues surrounding custody and finances fairly, as both parties navigate the emotional and financial complexities of their split. While the divorce is evidently taking a toll, it is important to note that both individuals are seeking to address their disputes constructively, which may lead to a constructive resolution for their family unit.

The duo’s journey highlights the importance of financial management and communication, particularly in the face of personal challenges. With determination, both Ryan and Kayla could emerge from this difficult period with clearer pathways to their individual futures, ensuring their children’s needs are met.
