Oladipo’s Comeback: Can the Former All-Star Rise Again?

Former NBA player Victor Oladipo is making strides toward a comeback after being sidelined since 2023. Recent reports indicate that he participated in a private workout in Las Vegas, garnering attention from a variety of NBA and European teams. Attendees were reportedly impressed with Oladipo’s performance, noting that he appeared to be in excellent shape as he aims to return to professional basketball.

During the workout, Oladipo engaged in a full-court five-on-five game with a group of international professionals, showcasing his skills and determination. This event attracted significant interest, signaling that there may be a path for the 33-year-old to re-enter the league.

Oladipo’s last NBA appearance came during the 2023 playoffs with the Miami Heat, where he suffered a torn patellar tendon in his left knee. This injury, along with subsequent trades—from the Heat to the Oklahoma City Thunder, then to the Houston Rockets, and finally to the Memphis Grizzlies, who waived him in February 2024—has delayed his return to the court.

Originally the second overall pick in the 2013 NBA draft, Oladipo was once an impactful two-way player. He earned All-Star selections in 2018 and 2019 while playing for the Indiana Pacers, also receiving the NBA Most Improved Player award in 2018 and being recognized on the All-NBA third team and the All-Defensive first team for his outstanding defensive skills.

Despite the challenges he has faced, including a significant gap in gameplay, there remains optimism surrounding Oladipo’s potential return, showcasing his resilience and dedication to the sport. His journey serves as an inspiring example for athletes overcoming adversity in their careers.
