Oksana Baiul, the celebrated Olympic figure skater who won gold at the 1994 Winter Olympics, has reached an agreement regarding her divorce from Carlo Farina following a tumultuous separation. According to a report from Us Weekly, the couple, who married in 2012 and share an 11-year-old daughter, Sophia, have decided that Farina will hold primary custody of their child.
The official agreement was presented to the court on October 6, detailing plans that permit Farina to relocate to Las Vegas with Sophia. In a heartfelt Instagram post celebrating Sophia’s birthday in June, Baiul acknowledged their daughter’s transition into her pre-teens, a momentous occasion for any parent.
Baiul, who revealed on social media in September that their Shreveport home was on the market, expressed regret over the dissolution of their marriage but ultimately wished for the best outcomes for their family. The former Olympic champion will have visitation rights with Sophia, based on arrangements made by Farina and the mutual agreement of their daughter.
As part of the divorce settlement, it has been reported that Baiul will undergo anger management classes and will submit to drug and alcohol testing to ensure her sobriety, reflecting her commitment to improving her personal circumstances. This follows a past incident in 1997 when Baiul was arrested for driving under the influence, which later led to dropped charges after fulfilling her probation requirements.
The couple’s divorce filing, initiated by Farina on June 26, included allegations of “verbal abuse” and toxic behavior from both parties, which they have publicly denied. Baiul took to Facebook to announce the separation, asking for prayers and expressing hope for their daughter’s well-being.
As both Baiul and Farina embark on separate paths, the focus remains on ensuring a stable and loving environment for young Sophia during this challenging transition.
