Severe weather is anticipated across Oklahoma on Thursday night, as local meteorologists project significant rainfall beginning in the evening hours. Starting around 5 p.m., areas in western Oklahoma, particularly near Clinton and Woodward, are expected to experience initial rainfall, with most precipitation likely occurring between 7 p.m. and 11 p.m. This rain is forecasted to taper off around 1 a.m. on Friday morning.

As the storm moves northeast, it will pass to the east of Ardmore and Ada while Oklahoma City and surrounding areas brace for a range of severe weather hazards, including potential hail, strong winds, and even tornadoes. The initial wave of rain on Thursday is expected to be accompanied by scattered thunderstorms, particularly in western and west-central Oklahoma, where residents may face dense fog in the morning hours.

A less than medium chance of tornado formation is anticipated for Thursday night, particularly in regions between Altus and Woodward. However, the main concerns for this area include the possibility of baseball-sized hail and wind gusts exceeding 75 mph.

Looking ahead to Friday, the risk of severe weather will shift, with central Oklahoma facing an increased chance of tornadoes. While the morning may start off relatively calm, forecasters predict a concentration of severe weather to develop by late afternoon, extending from 3 p.m. until 3 a.m. on Saturday. AccuWeather Chief On-Air Meteorologist Bernie Rayno highlighted that strong winds in the atmosphere are a critical ingredient for the severe weather outbreak expected during this period.

Meteorologists note that thunderstorms could manifest in two distinct waves—daytime storms exhibiting higher severity compared to lighter storms that may occur overnight. Residents are urged to stay vigilant and informed as weather updates roll in, especially as indicators suggest increased severity across much of the state.

Oklahoma weather authorities are actively monitoring the situation and will provide updates via live radar as conditions evolve. Communities are reminded to remain prepared and heed any weather warnings issued by local meteorology experts.
