Oilers Land Mangiapane: A Game-Changer for the Season Ahead!

The Edmonton Oilers have secured forward Andrew Mangiapane, signing him to a two-year contract worth $7.2 million, as announced on Tuesday. This agreement comes with an average annual value of $3.6 million.

Mangiapane, 29, had a productive season with the Washington Capitals, scoring 14 goals and accumulating 28 points in 81 regular-season games. He contributed an additional goal and two points during the playoffs, although the Capitals were ousted by the Carolina Hurricanes in the second round.

Standing at 5 feet 10 inches, Mangiapane is transitioning from a previous three-year contract worth $17.4 million, which had a cap hit of $5.8 million. Over the course of his career, which began after being drafted 166th overall by the Calgary Flames in 2015, he has accumulated 123 goals and 243 points in 498 games split between the Flames and Capitals.

Notably, Mangiapane has represented Canada at the World Championship level on two occasions, earning the MVP title in 2021 after scoring seven goals and totaling 11 points to help secure a gold medal for his team.

This signing adds depth to the Oilers’ roster, with Mangiapane’s scoring ability and playoff experience positioning him as a valuable asset moving forward. His impressive track record at the national level also suggests he could thrive in high-pressure situations with Edmonton.
