Bo Jackson has been named the Big Ten Freshman of the Week following an impressive performance in Ohio State’s commanding 42-9 victory over Rutgers. This recognition marks a significant achievement for Jackson, especially as he is the first freshman to earn this honor in recent games, breaking Julian Sayin’s streak of four consecutive awards this season.
In the game against Rutgers, Jackson showcased his talent and determination, recording a career-high 19 carries for 110 yards and scoring two touchdowns. This performance highlights his incredible ability, as he has now surpassed the 100-yard mark in five games this season, including matches against teams like Grambling State, Ohio, Penn State, and UCLA. Notably, he has achieved this feat three times in his last four outings.
Jackson, a Cleveland native and Glenville graduate, played a pivotal role in propelling Ohio State’s rushing attack forward. The Buckeyes amassed an impressive 254 rushing yards against Rutgers, and Jackson’s contributions were complemented by teammates Isaiah West, James Peoples, and Lincoln Kienholz, who also made significant gains.
Overall, Jackson leads Ohio State this season with 129 carries for 835 yards and five touchdowns, while also contributing to the receiving game with 13 catches for 138 yards and one touchdown. His achievement adds to the accolades of the Buckeyes, making him the fourth player from the team to earn a Big Ten weekly award this season, following Julian Sayin, who has received the honor five times, as well as Caden Curry and Arvell Reese, each with one award.
Bo Jackson’s remarkable performance and contributions underscore the bright future ahead for Ohio State’s football program, with the young talent making a solid impact in collegiate athletics.
