Ogwumike’s Record-Breaking All-Star Journey: What’s Next for the WNBA?

Nneka Ogwumike of the Seattle Storm has made history by earning her 10th WNBA All-Star selection, joining elite players like Sue Bird, Tamika Catchings, Brittney Griner, and Diana Taurasi, who each have reached this milestone. This significant achievement comes as Ogwumike enters her 14th season in the league, and it ties her for third place in WNBA history for All-Star selections, trailing only Bird (13) and Taurasi (11).

Highlighting the 2025 AT&T WNBA All-Star Game along with Ogwumike are notable players such as Breanna Stewart of the New York Liberty and A’ja Wilson of the Las Vegas Aces, each making their seventh appearance. The game is set to take place at Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis on Saturday, July 19, and will be broadcast on multiple platforms, including ABC and ESPN+.

Captains for this year’s All-Star game were also announced, with Caitlin Clark of the Indiana Fever and Napheesa Collier of the Minnesota Lynx leading the rosters. Clark secured her captaincy through a record-breaking fan vote tally of 1,293,526, while Collier followed with 1,176,020 votes. Fans will soon get involved again as voting for the 12 reserve spots, determined by WNBA head coaches, is set to begin.

Both captains will draft their teams for the All-Star game during an ESPN broadcast on July 8. If any player is unable to participate, a replacement will be appointed by WNBA Commissioner Cathy Engelbert.
