A police officer was among ten individuals apprehended for drunk driving during heightened Random Breath Test (RBT) operations conducted in Nadi and Suva last night. The operation marked the third consecutive night of enforcement along the Nadi–Namaka corridor, where officers tested a total of 351 drivers. Among these, nine arrests were made, which included the police officer who was allegedly found driving under the influence.
Additionally, thirteen drivers tested during the operation were released after their alcohol readings were below the legal limit. In a parallel operation in Suva, authorities screened 450 drivers, leading to one arrest, while three others were let go after also returning results that fell within legal guidelines.
Law enforcement officials have emphasized their commitment to ensuring that the law is enforced equally among all road users, including police personnel. This initiative is part of broader efforts to reduce alcohol-related incidents on the roads and enhance overall road safety. The focus on accountability serves as a reminder of the serious implications of drunk driving and the concerted efforts by authorities to maintain safe driving practices in the community.
