“October 3rd: A Celebration of Mean Girls and Its 20-Year Legacy!”

October 3rd is widely celebrated as “Mean Girls Day,” a date that has become iconic thanks to a memorable line from the film “Mean Girls,” released on April 19, 2004. The significance of this day stems from a scene in the movie where actress Lindsay Lohan, portraying Cady Heron, shares her excitement after her crush, Aaron Samuels, asks her about the date. In a voice-over, she famously recounts, “On October 3rd, he asked me what day it was.”

To commemorate the film’s 20th anniversary, many theaters across the United States will re-screen “Mean Girls” on October 3.

Additionally, this year, a new film adaptation of “Mean Girls” has been released, created by Tina Fey and based on the Broadway musical, which itself was inspired by the original 2004 movie. The new adaptation mirrors Cady’s journey to the suburbs and her navigation through high school dynamics, particularly her acceptance into a group of popular girls known as the Plastics, led by Regina George, played by Reneé Rapp. Fey has described this new version as having “a new twist,” with songs and modern elements, while still retaining the heart of the original story that continues to resonate with audiences two decades later.
