The Organisation of African, Caribbean and Pacific States (OACPS) convened its Committee of Ambassadors recently to deliberate on critical priorities in advance of important global events, notably COP30 and the 11th OACPS Summit of Heads of State and Government, slated for March 2026 in Malabo, Equatorial Guinea.
Discussions during the meeting were informed by recent outcomes from a technical workshop focused on the International Court of Justice (ICJ) advisory opinion relating to climate action. This demonstrates the commitment of OACPS members to work collaboratively towards addressing urgent climate issues.
OACPS Secretary-General Moussa Batraki addressed the Committee, calling upon member states to uphold unity and resolve in furthering their collective vision. He pointed out that the contemporary global challenges cannot be tackled by isolated actions and stressed the need for enhanced cooperation and a revitalized multilateral system capable of responding effectively to modern demands. “The challenges ahead demand determination over hesitation, cooperation over fragmentation, and a renewed sense of purpose to translate this shared vision into concrete action,” he emphasized.
Moses Kuoni Mose, the Chair of the OACPS Committee and Permanent Representative of the Solomon Islands to the EU, echoed Batraki’s message. He noted that the organization stands at a crucial crossroads where global challenges align with the ambitions of its member states. Mose encouraged fellow ambassadors to demonstrate exceptional commitment and foresight in fulfilling OACPS’s mandate.
During his six-month presidency, Ambassador Mose outlined five key priority areas: supporting the OACPS reform process, implementing the Samoa Agreement, organizing the 120th OACPS Council of Ministers in December 2025, ensuring financial sustainability, and bolstering preparations for the forthcoming summit.
This meeting highlighted the essential nature of inter-member cooperation and reflected the unified commitment towards proactive measures in confronting shared challenges, such as the effects of climate change, economic stability, and governance. The collaborative spirit within the OACPS presents a hopeful outlook for a more integrated future, aimed at tackling pressing issues affecting its member nations. Through strategic dialogues and unified action, there is significant potential for meaningful progress in promoting resilience and sustainable development across the African, Caribbean, and Pacific regions.
