The Organisation of African, Caribbean and Pacific States (OACPS) recently convened its Committee of Ambassadors to discuss various crucial priorities leading up to significant global events. Among the focal points were preparations for COP30 and the upcoming 11th OACPS Summit of Heads of State and Government, which is set to take place in March 2026 in Malabo, Equatorial Guinea.
During the meeting, discussions also revolved around the outcomes from a recent technical workshop on the International Court of Justice (ICJ) advisory opinion regarding climate action. This highlights the ongoing commitment of OACPS members to address pressing climate issues collaboratively.
OACPS Secretary-General Moussa Batraki addressed the Committee, urging member states to maintain unity and determination in advancing their shared vision. He emphasized that today’s global challenges cannot be tackled by any nation or region alone and called for enhanced cooperation and a revitalized multilateral system that can effectively respond to contemporary needs. “The challenges ahead demand determination over hesitation, cooperation over fragmentation, and a renewed sense of purpose to translate this shared vision into concrete action,” he stated.
The Chair of the OACPS Committee and the Permanent Representative of the Solomon Islands to the EU, Moses Kuoni Mose, echoed this sentiment, indicating that the organization is at a pivotal moment where global challenges intersect with the aspirations of its member states. He encouraged his fellow ambassadors to exhibit the utmost dedication and foresight in executing OACPS’s mandate.
Ambassador Mose outlined five key priority areas for his upcoming six-month presidency: supporting the OACPS reform process, implementing the Samoa Agreement, convening the 120th OACPS Council of Ministers in December 2025, ensuring financial sustainability, and enhancing preparations for the upcoming summit.
This meeting not only underscores the importance of cooperation across member states but also reflects the collective commitment to proactive action in addressing shared challenges such as climate change, economic sustainability, and governance. The collaborative spirit exhibited within the OACPS provides hope for a more unified future in tackling the issues that impact its diverse member nations. Through strategic dialogue and collective action, there lies potential for significant progress in fostering resilience and sustainable development across the African, Caribbean, and Pacific regions.
