Running back Nyheim Hines is set to make a new start with the Los Angeles Chargers as he continues his NFL career. According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, Hines has made an agreement to join the team. His move comes after a challenging period, as he has not played since suffering a severe leg injury in a jet ski accident in July 2023.
Before his injury, Hines was part of the Buffalo Bills, where he showcased his talents in the 2022 season, notably by returning two kickoffs for touchdowns in the season’s final game. He had previously signed with the Cleveland Browns last year but remained on the non-football injury list without making an appearance.
During his NFL tenure, which began with the Indianapolis Colts, Hines compiled an impressive record, including running 300 times for 1,205 yards and scoring 10 touchdowns. Additionally, he had successful contributions on special teams with two punt returns for touchdowns.
The Chargers have also strengthened their backfield this offseason by adding Najee Harris and Omarion Hampton. However, it’s worth noting that Harris is currently on the non-football injury list due to an eye injury sustained in a fireworks accident.
This addition of Hines could foster a significant boost for the Chargers, especially considering the team’s recent injuries. With agility and unique playmaking skills, Hines could become a valuable asset, both on the ground and in the return game, as he seeks to regain form and contribute effectively to his new team.
