New York City is gearing up for its largest-ever Summer Streets program, set to kick off on Saturday, July 26, and run for five consecutive Saturdays until August 23. This year, the initiative will feature an expansive 22 miles of car-free streets across all five boroughs, including an unprecedented continuous route along the length of Manhattan, starting from the Brooklyn Bridge and extending to Inwood.

Each Saturday, from 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., New Yorkers will enjoy a vibrant atmosphere filled with free activities for pedestrians and cyclists. The schedule starts with events in Queens and Staten Island, showcasing scenic routes like Vernon Blvd along the waterfront and Forest Ave in Staten Island, a newly introduced area for Summer Streets.

Commissioner Ydanis Rodriguez emphasized the program’s role in transforming city streets into vibrant public spaces that promote community engagement and cultural expression. This year’s offerings also include the NYRR Start Line Series, which provides free community run and walk events, beginning on July 26 in Queens and continuing in Brooklyn on August 23, complete with activities for children.

Additionally, on August 2, cycling enthusiasts are invited to participate in Bike New York’s “Together We Ride” event, a group ride through Manhattan’s Summer Streets route, highlighting sustainable transportation and urban exploration. Participants of all skill levels are encouraged to join this guided ride.

Interactive public art installations are also a highlight this year, including Mookntaka’s inflatable sculptures and Acrylicize’s” Collective Bloom” interactive sculpture in Manhattan, aimed at encouraging human connection and creativity along the routes.

The initiative is supported by various sponsors, including major brands like Coca-Cola and Lyft, which will provide free Citi Bike Day Passes on event days.

This event not only promotes physical activity but also fosters a sense of community and camaraderie among New Yorkers, showcasing the city’s commitment to enhancing public spaces for all to enjoy. The inclusion of diverse programming illustrates an exciting return to community-oriented activities, paving the way for a summer filled with culture, art, and connection.
