The NYC Pride parade on June 29 is anticipated to attract millions of supporters and participants in Manhattan, marking the conclusion of Pride Month in a vibrant display of solidarity and advocacy for the LGBTQ+ community. As the birthplace of the LGBTQ+ rights movement, New York City’s Pride March is one of the largest civil rights gatherings worldwide, deeply rooted in the historic Stonewall Riots of 1969.

This year’s rallying theme, “Rise Up: Pride in Protest,” reflects the ongoing challenges faced by the LGBTQ+ community, particularly in light of recent actions from the previous administration that have threatened their rights and access to essential services. Kazz Alexander, Co-Chair of NYC Pride, emphasized the importance of being aware of and responsive to community needs during these times, stating that the theme underscores the necessity to assert First Amendment rights and civil liberties.

Details about the NYC Pride March highlight its route through Lower Manhattan and Greenwich Village, beginning at 5th Avenue between 25th Street and 8th Street, proceeding south and passing the iconic Stonewall National Monument. The parade kicks off at 11 a.m. and participation is free, although a premium VIP experience has already sold out. Good viewing spots include areas near Christopher Street and the Flatiron District, where spectators are advised to arrive early due to expected road closures.

With weather forecasts predicting mostly sunny conditions and highs around 87 degrees, the march is set to be a lively and memorable event. The grand marshals for this year include prominent figures like former White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre and other advocates within the community.

The NYC Pride March will also be accessible for those unable to attend in person, as it will be streamed live on ABC7 and its online platforms starting at noon.

This year’s parade not only celebrates diversity and community strength but also serves as a powerful reminder of the ongoing fight for LGBTQ+ rights, inviting everyone to join in unity and action.
