As New York City braces for an approaching snowstorm, meteorologists are raising their estimates, now predicting up to 10 inches of snow between Sunday and Monday. This forecast comes from the National Weather Service (NWS), which noted that the worst-case scenario has roughly doubled from earlier projections.

The NWS stressed that uncertainty remains regarding the storm’s track, timing, and intensity. As of Friday midday, expectations were set for light snow to begin as early as Sunday morning, continuing until Monday afternoon.

James Tomasini, a meteorologist with the NWS, provided insight into the situation, stating, “One thing I will say is that the temperatures this time around will be much more marginal.” He explained that temperatures at the onset of the storm would be slightly above freezing, only dipping to the freezing mark Sunday night.

This snowstorm contrasts sharply with the severe cold spell that followed January’s major snowstorm, which left over 20 individuals dead due to the extreme conditions. Residents are encouraged to prepare accordingly, considering both the snow accumulation and the potential for icy road conditions as temperatures fluctuate.

Despite the challenging weather forecast, there remains hope that city services and residents will manage the snow effectively, allowing for a safe response to the event.
