NWA Matches Set to Invade Roku: What’s Next for Wrestling Fans?

Fans of professional wrestling can anticipate an exciting new lineup of matches as Billy Corgan’s National Wrestling Alliance (NWA) has finalized a partnership with Roku. This collaboration will see NWA bouts streamed on The Roku Channel across the U.S., Canada, and Mexico, commencing on July 29.

This agreement represents the first major first-run initiative for the NWA in over 25 years. The organization, founded in 1948 by a coalition of wrestling promoters, was established to unify the championships of various regional wrestling promotions into one governing body.

Billy Corgan, the frontman of the band The Smashing Pumpkins and a dedicated wrestling enthusiast, acquired the NWA in 2017. Under his leadership, the league has broadened its programming, introducing initiatives like “Ten Pounds Of Gold” and regular episodes of “NWA Powerrr,” accessible on The CW’s app.

Beginning this summer, NWA matches will be available to stream for free every Tuesday at 8 p.m. ET, furthering the league’s reach to wrestling fans. This agreement not only expands Roku’s sports offerings, which already include events from MLB, the NBA G-League, Formula E, and more, but also revitalizes an iconic wrestling brand.

“I look forward to sharing new episodes of ‘NWA Powerrr’ with the incredible audience that Roku brings,” stated Corgan. Joe Franzetta from Roku Media expressed enthusiasm about the collaboration, stating that they are eager to leverage their platform to introduce the historic NWA promotion to millions of viewers.

This deal is a significant step forward for the NWA and indicates a growing interest in the sport, potentially bringing a new generation of fans to the wrestling world while honoring its storied legacy.
