‘NSync, the iconic boy band, has faced setbacks in their attempts to create a movie that chronicles their official story. Discussions commenced in 2023 following the release of their first song in 20 years, “Better Place,” from the soundtrack of Trolls Band Together. This revival sparked substantial interest and initiated plans for a film, but as it stands, these efforts have come to a halt, according to exclusive sources from Us Weekly.
The film project was envisioned in various formats, both as a scripted feature and as a documentary capturing behind-the-scenes moments with the band. However, the plan has stalled, as there is currently no progress being made. A significant point of contention has been Justin Timberlake’s desire for a level of control regarding the project. Sources reveal that he is seeking a role as executive producer, while the other four band members would hold producer titles. This difference in leadership and creative direction has led to disagreements that have hindered the project’s advancement.
There was once optimism that the film could be released in time for the band’s 30th anniversary in October, but that milestone has come and gone without any developments. In January, The Hollywood Reporter reported that discussions were underway to potentially bring the film to life, with producer Neal H. Moritz engaging all five members. However, the differing management teams for each member created additional challenges in securing a cohesive agreement for the biopic.
Us Weekly previously highlighted that ‘NSync was close to planning a stadium tour, only to delay those aspirations indefinitely due to Timberlake’s commitments to his solo Forget Tomorrow World Tour and his struggles with Lyme disease. The other members—JC Chasez, Lance Bass, Joey Fatone, and Chris Kirkpatrick—have expressed they do not wish to tour without Timberlake, as he recently shared on Instagram that he is uncertain about his future onstage due to his ongoing health battles.
Despite not touring together since 2002, ‘NSync has reunited sporadically, most notably at the MTV Video Music Awards in 2013 and 2023, and they received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 2018. Though the current state of the film and future tours remain uncertain, fans continue to hold onto hope for more ‘NSync experiences in the future. The band’s journey from their early days to their eventual iconic status has left a lasting impression, and their legacy continues to resonate with audiences worldwide.
