November Surprises: Double and Triple Social Security Payments Ahead!

Social Security recipients typically receive one payment each month. However, based on the Schedule of Social Security Benefit Payments for 2024, certain beneficiaries will receive two or even three checks in November.

Individuals who can expect to receive two payments next month are those who receive Supplemental Security Income (SSI), including some who also get monthly Social Security benefits. SSI offers monthly payments to people with disabilities and elderly individuals who have minimal or no income or resources.

Key details about the November 2024 payment schedule include:

SSI beneficiaries will receive two payments in November. Normally, SSI payments are issued on the first day of the month. If the first falls on a weekend or a holiday, payments are made on the last business day of the prior month. Since December 1 lands on a Sunday, recipients will receive their payments on November 29. This is not an “extra” payment but rather an advance for the following month. Thus, individuals on SSI will receive payments on both November 1 and November 29.

Some beneficiaries who receive both SSI and Social Security benefits can expect three checks in November. Those who receive SSI and Social Security, or who claimed Social Security prior to May 1997, typically receive Social Security payments on the 3rd. However, due to November 3 falling on a Sunday, payments will be issued on November 1. Therefore, these individuals can anticipate three payments throughout November.

All other Social Security recipients should anticipate their payments to be disbursed as per the usual schedule. If your birthday falls between the 1st and 10th of the month, your Social Security check will arrive on November 13. Those born between the 11th and 20th can expect payment on November 20. Lastly, recipients with birthdays from the 21st to the 31st will receive their payments on November 27.

Looking ahead, the Social Security payment schedule for 2025 will also see adjustments in response to holidays and weekends.

Additionally, there are changes coming to Social Security next year. The Social Security Administration has announced a 2.5% cost-of-living adjustment (COLA) for 2025, which will mean an increase of approximately $49 for the average retiree. This adjustment will raise the average monthly Social Security check from $1,927 to $1,976.
