SOUTH BEND, Ind. — In a spectacular display of talent, Hannah Hidalgo, a two-time All-American, continued to impress as she led the Notre Dame women’s basketball team to a commanding 110-38 victory over Bellarmine at Purcell Pavilion on Sunday night. With remarkable determination, Hidalgo demonstrated her prowess not just in scoring but also by contributing to her team’s defense, even diving for loose balls in the fourth quarter. Her performance included an exceptional triple-double, marking the first in Notre Dame women’s basketball history, featuring 30 points, 10 assists, and 13 steals—three short of her own school record—achieved in just 22 minutes of play.
“I’m super grateful to always be on the court,” Hidalgo remarked after surpassing Arike Ogunbowale’s record for career 30-point games with her 12th. “I thank God every day that I have the ability to play the game of basketball.”
The Irish’s dominance was reflected in the scoring output of their players, with Cass Prosper scoring 20 points and securing a career-high 14 rebounds, while Gisela Sanchez recorded a double-double with 17 points and 10 rebounds. In total, six Irish players scored in double figures, showcasing their depth and strength.
Notre Dame’s victory was highlighted by remarkable teamwork and skillful play, starting the game with a 10-0 run and later extending that momentum into the second half with a 21-0 run. Head coach Niele Ivey emphasized the importance of maintaining a high standard of play throughout the match.
This win secured the 27th consecutive non-conference home victory for the Irish, wrapping up a successful non-conference schedule before the team prepares for its ACC competition. The Irish will face Pitt next, followed by critical matchups against ranked opponents in January, including No. 1 UConn, No. 16 Louisville, and No. 18 North Carolina.
Looking ahead, the Irish will need to fine-tune their strategies, particularly in half-court situations, to improve their chances against tougher opponents. Key players, including Kelly Ratigan, who has shown leadership qualities, and the chemistry developing between Iyana Moore and Malaya Cowles, will be essential in the upcoming games. The team is eager to build on their current momentum and deepen the intensity of their gameplay as they enter the more challenging phase of the season.
With a strong start to the season, Notre Dame aims not only to maintain their strong performance but to elevate their game further in pursuit of their goals in the ACC and beyond.
