Northern Lights: Will Tonight’s Sky Surprise Us?

Tonight’s visibility of the Northern Lights is unlikely due to shifting weather patterns. Currently, the area is experiencing clear skies and slightly cooler temperatures, which mark the beginning of fall. If you’re out and about, a light jacket is recommended, but overall, it’s a pleasant day with temperatures around 59 degrees at BWI Marshall, 63 downtown, and 61 in Woodstock. Later this afternoon, temperatures are expected to reach the low 70s in some spots, while much of the region will stay in the upper 60s.

Clear skies are predicted overnight, with temperatures dropping into the 40s. While these clear conditions might provide an opportunity to see the Northern Lights, the forecast suggests that a recent uptick in intensity is now projected to occur farther north than the area experienced last night. Though yesterday’s display was a delight for many, today’s chances appear slim but remain a possibility as conditions could still surprise us.

Looking ahead, tomorrow is expected to be another beautiful day with plenty of sunshine and slightly warmer temperatures. As we head into Sunday, game day for the Ravens against the Commanders, conditions will be ideal, with temperatures reaching the low 80s.

As we move into next week, cooler temperatures are anticipated, with Tuesday and Wednesday seeing highs only in the 50s and chilly morning lows.
