Seven-year-old Corrin Kennedy from Dunloy, Co. Antrim, is set to experience an extraordinary Christmas this year, as he and his mother, Courtney, embark on a magical journey to Lapland. This trip has been made possible by the Northern Ireland Children to Lapland and Days to Remember Trust, providing a much-needed break from the medical routines that Corrin, who has cerebral palsy and epilepsy, faces regularly.

Alongside over 80 other children from Northern Ireland coping with life-threatening and life-limiting conditions, Corrin will depart from Belfast International Airport on December 17, 2025. This marks the 17th year of the charity’s flagship initiative, which has already brought joy to more than 1,800 children and their families since its inception.

Courtney expressed her deep gratitude upon learning that Corrin had been selected for this unforgettable experience. “It felt completely surreal,” she said, acknowledging how the trip represents more than just a holiday; it symbolizes a chance to escape the challenges associated with Corrin’s medical needs. “Thanks to the NI Children to Lapland, our dream is becoming a reality,” she added. The itinerary promises a host of enchanting experiences, including riding reindeer and huskies, mini skidoo adventures, sleigh rides, and, of course, a personal meeting with Santa Claus in Rovaniemi, the official home of Santa.

In addition to Corrin, four-year-old Talia Grundon from Coleraine, who has overcome significant health challenges, will also share in this festive adventure. Her mother, Sarah-Louise, spoke about the joy the trip brings, stating it allows Talia to simply be a child, filled with wonder.

The coordinated efforts of several partners, including TUI, Belfast International Airport, and numerous healthcare professionals, all contribute to making this dream a reality for the children involved. Colin Barkley, Chair of the NI Children to Lapland and Days to Remember Trust, emphasized how this day is the highlight of the year for the organization. He expressed that the opportunity to bring joy to these families is a profound Christmas gift and praised the generous support from community members and businesses that allows this initiative to flourish.

Belfast International Airport’s Communications & Corporate Affairs Director, Deborah Harris, noted the airport’s delight in hosting the flight, underscoring the meaningful experience it provides.

As the countdown to departure continues, the festive spirit will be amplified with a performance from The Choir Studio from Newry, showcasing the true essence of Christmas.

Photographs and updates from the journey will be shared on the charity’s Facebook page, allowing everyone to witness the joy and magic this trip brings to the children and their families. This initiative highlights the importance of community support and the joy of giving, reminding everyone of the power of hope and happiness during the holiday season.
