Northern Division Clinics Receive New WASH Supplies to Boost Medical Waste Safety

Health workers in the Northern Division have recently received a significant enhancement to their operational capabilities with the delivery of new Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) supplies to medical facilities in Bua and Macuata. This initiative, orchestrated by a team from the Health Ministry’s headquarters, includes essential items such as wheelie bins, pedal bins, and specialized waste-segregation containers.

These new supplies are designed to improve the management of medical waste within clinics and health centers, fostering a safer environment for health staff, patients, and the surrounding communities. Assistant Minister for Health, Penioni Ravunawa, who is conducting a tour in the North, was present to oversee the handover and connect with the WASH team.

Ravunawa emphasized the critical importance of enhancing sanitation in frontline healthcare facilities to prevent contamination and curb the risk of disease outbreaks. He also noted that many subdivisions have previously undergone training to implement effective healthcare waste management strategies, with several of these initiatives being officially launched earlier this year.

The introduction of these supplies is expected to create a safer working environment for healthcare staff and contribute to cleaner, healthier conditions for the communities that depend on these vital services. This development represents a positive step toward improving public health infrastructure in the region.
