Gun violence has become the leading cause of death among children and teens in North Carolina, raising significant concerns for the safety of young residents. Many of these tragedies stem from unsecured firearms, which continue to pose a grave risk. In response to this escalating crisis, NC S.A.F.E. (Secure All Firearms Effectively) is organizing its third annual Week of Action, aimed at addressing the dangers associated with unsecured guns and promoting safe storage practices.
From June 1 to June 7, various events will take place across the state, bringing together community leaders, parents, law enforcement officials, and health professionals. The Week of Action will feature free gun lock giveaways, educational seminars, and compelling testimonials from families affected by gun violence. These initiatives underscore the urgent need for responsible firearm storage to prevent incidents of injury and death among children.
Participants will have the opportunity to hear from NC S.A.F.E. representatives, who will be available to discuss the initiative’s objectives and the essential steps needed to secure firearms. Community members are encouraged to join in this critical conversation to help foster a safer environment for North Carolina’s children.
By collaborating with local stakeholders, the NC S.A.F.E. initiative hopes to raise awareness and drive change in gun safety practices, ultimately paving the way for a brighter and safer future for the younger generation.
This week-long campaign highlights a proactive approach to a pressing public safety issue, fostering community engagement and aligning efforts for better firearm safety measures.
