NORAD’s annual Santa Tracker is set to delight children and families around the world once more this Christmas Eve as it embarks on its 69th year of tracking Santa Claus on his gift-giving journey. The tradition began when a child mistakenly contacted a military operations center in 1955 and has since evolved into a cherished holiday event.

On Christmas Eve, NORAD will officially start tracking Santa at 4 a.m. EST, using its app and website. After 6 a.m. EST, children can call NORAD at 1-877-HI-NORAD to receive updates about Santa’s current location.

LiveNOW from FOX is joining the celebration with a three-hour special, titled “Track Santa Now,” that starts at 9 p.m. EST. This special will include interviews with NORAD representatives, live updates from Santa, and festive segments featuring holiday-themed activities, such as a visit to a poinsettia farm and a sneak peek at the stunning decorations in Dyker Heights, Brooklyn. There also may be surprise appearances from iconic seasonal characters.

While NORAD can provide information about Santa’s journey, the exact time he arrives at individual homes remains a mystery, depending on whether children are asleep. It is a widely held belief that Santa typically visits homes between 9 p.m. and midnight on Christmas Eve.

Despite its primary mission of air defense, NORAD dedicates time on Christmas Eve to tracking Santa, showcasing how a military organization can bridge the gap between defense and holiday joy. The NORAD Tracks Santa website offers various features, including games and holiday music, and is available in nine different languages, making it accessible to a global audience.

This tradition fosters a sense of wonder and excitement during the holiday season, encouraging families to come together and engage in festive spirit. It remains a heartwarming reminder of the magic of Christmas that spans generations.

This year, as families gather to track Santa, they can look forward to a celebration of joy and hope, reinforcing the idea that the holiday season is about connection, magic, and the spirit of giving.
