The upcoming spinoff of Tulsa King, titled NOLA King, is currently seeking a new showrunner following the departure of Dave Erickson. Although initially set to helm the series, Erikson’s commitments to the current season of Tulsa King and his role as showrunner on Taylor Sheridan’s Mayor of Kingstown has made it unfeasible for him to take on NOLA King.
NOLA King is expected to star Samuel L. Jackson, who will portray Russell Lee Washington Jr., a character with a background in the crime world similar to that of Sylvester Stallone’s Dwight “The General” Manfredi. Jackson’s character is set to clash with Manfredi in the upcoming third season of Tulsa King before he transitions to lead the spinoff in New Orleans.
Production for Season 3 of Tulsa King has been taking place in Atlanta and Oklahoma for the past few months, with Jackson slated to shoot his episodes in July. Additionally, plans for NOLA King are reportedly aiming for a production start in February, pending official confirmation from Paramount+. The project promises to be an exciting addition to the franchise, with Sheridan and David C. Glasser from 101 Studios also serving as executive producers.
This shift in showrunners may present an opportunity for fresh ideas and creative direction for NOLA King, ensuring that the storytelling remains engaging and relevant to audiences. The anticipation surrounding Jackson’s role and the potential dynamics with Stallone’s character adds to the intrigue of the new series.
