Noah Juulsen has officially parted ways with the Vancouver Canucks, having signed a one-way contract with the Philadelphia Flyers as NHL free agency commenced. The deal, valued at $900,000, was reported by CHEK’s Rick Dhaliwal just two minutes after the opening of free agency at 9:02 a.m. PDT.
Concerns emerged from fans regarding potential tampering due to the quick signing. However, Dhaliwal clarified that the Canucks had given Juulsen’s agent the green light to engage discussions with other teams prior to the free agency period starting. This move brings Juulsen back into the fold with former Canucks head coach Rick Tocchet, who is now leading the Flyers.
Juulsen’s journey to this point includes being acquired by the Canucks in a 2021 trade, which also saw Juho Lammikko join Vancouver and Olli Juolevi move to the Florida Panthers. Despite spending significant time in the AHL, Juulsen made his mark as a reliable depth defenceman in the NHL over the past two seasons.
With Juulsen’s exit, the Canucks are now left with two other roster players, Brock Boeser and Pius Suter, who could face unrestricted free agency and potentially leave the team without compensation.
This transition marks a new chapter for both Juulsen and the Canucks, presenting opportunities for fresh faces and strategies within the organization. It’s a critical time for the Canucks as they navigate player retention and roster changes in an ever-competitive league.
