Police Commissioner Rusiate Tudravu has made it clear that there will be no reconciliation regarding the alleged harassment of health workers on Ono-i-Lau Island in the Lau Group during the festive season. A police team is presently investigating the incident, and Commissioner Tudravu emphasized that reconciling with the individuals involved is not an option.

He highlighted the vital role communities play in protecting public workers who travel to provide essential services. “I would like to state that the communities are responsible for looking after government officials who are sent to provide assistance,” he said.

Commissioner Tudravu warned that the closure of health centers, as a result of such incidents, would ultimately harm the local population. He urged the “Vanua” to take this matter seriously and prioritize the safety of health workers to ensure they can continue to serve the community effectively.

This situation underlines the importance of cooperative responsibility within communities to ensure that essential services can be maintained, fostering a safe environment for those who serve.
