During the Sunday afternoon session of the 195th Semiannual General Conference of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, held on October 5, 2025, President Dallin H. Oaks, who leads the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles, reaffirmed the church’s doctrine centered on the family, emphasizing the significant role of the temple in that doctrine. He stated, “The ordinances received there enable us to return as eternal families to the presence of our Heavenly Father.”

President Oaks noted that the church has seen a substantial expansion in the number of temples, with President Russell M. Nelson previously announcing 200 new temples during the April 2025 general conference. The excitement surrounding these announcements has been a source of joy for the membership. However, given that many of the new temples are still in the early stages of planning and construction, he indicated a need to pause on announcing additional temples at this conference.

“With the approval of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles, we will not announce any new temples at this conference. Instead, focus will shift to providing temple ordinances to members worldwide and determining the proper timing and locations for future temple announcements,” President Oaks explained.

This strategic approach aims to enhance the church’s ability to serve its members and fulfill its mission. As the church continues its growth, this emphasis on careful consideration and planning could strengthen its focus on facilitating meaningful spiritual experiences for families.
