The Government has firmly addressed recent allegations put forth by Opposition Leader Inia Seruiratu, who claimed that the nation is in turmoil. Ro Filipe Tuisawau, the Deputy Leader of the People’s Alliance Party (PAP), characterized Seruiratu’s assertions as “desperate” and misleading.

Tuisawau underscored that the Government is functioning normally and is committed to following all legal and constitutional protocols, including those matters currently before the courts. He asserted, “There is no chaos as Hon Seruiratu asserts,” providing reassurance that both the judiciary and legal systems are operating as they should.

He speculated that Seruiratu’s statements stem from political unease, especially noting the potential challenges faced by the People’s First Party in reaching the five percent electoral threshold without the support of notable figures such as former Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama and former Attorney-General Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum. Tuisawau remarked, “He knows that without Bainimarama and Hon Khaiyum, their party will not make the five percent threshold,” highlighting the significant influence these leaders have had in previous electoral successes.

Furthermore, Tuisawau confirmed the People’s Alliance Party’s commitment to improving the quality of life for citizens, asserting that a myriad of essential services and initiatives have already been launched. He critiqued the branding and ideology of the People’s First Party as ambiguous, linking it to the so-called “Sunset Clause ideology” that surfaced from the 2006 coup.

He also raised concerns about individuals who, after a long silence during years of suppression, now seek to re-establish themselves in the political sphere by positioning themselves as saviors of the public. In conclusion, Tuisawau firmly dismissed allegations of government instability, reaffirming the efficacy of governmental institutions in executing their functions effectively.

The dialogue highlights the ongoing political dynamics and tensions, illustrating the determination of the current government to maintain stability and progress amidst criticisms.
