Nissan has announced a recall of 173,301 vehicles in the United States due to an issue with the fuel tank temperature sensor harness. As of now, it remains unclear whether any vehicles in Canada will be affected, or how many may be involved.
The recall specifically targets a number of compact commercial vehicles, including the Nissan NV200 Van from 2013 to 2021, the Nissan NV200 Taxi models from 2014 to 2017 and 2019, as well as the Chevrolet City Express from 2015 to 2018, which was manufactured by Nissan for General Motors.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has indicated that the problem arises from improper routing of the wiring harness. This misrouting can lead to damage to the wires, potentially resulting in a short circuit in the fuel pump fuse and causing the engine to stall unexpectedly.
Nissan plans to reach out to affected owners by mail beginning in late fall 2025 to schedule the necessary repairs, which will be provided at no charge.
This recall is noteworthy as it follows a previous incident earlier this year where nearly 444,000 Nissan vehicles were recalled due to a risk of engine failure. This recent development puts additional scrutiny on the Japanese automaker’s quality control efforts in the North American market.
As Nissan continues to address these issues, it highlights the company’s commitment to safety and the proactive measures being taken to protect consumers.
