A mass stabbing incident on a train traveling from Doncaster to London King’s Cross has left nine individuals hospitalized with life-threatening injuries, while a tenth suffered non-life-threatening injuries. The attack occurred on Saturday evening aboard the 6.25 PM train, shortly after it departed from Peterborough station in Cambridgeshire. Reports indicate a man armed with a large knife was subdued by police using a Taser following the attack.

British Transport Police (BTP) have arrested two individuals related to the stabbings, and counter-terrorism units are involved in the ongoing investigation. Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer termed the incident “deeply concerning,” reflecting the widespread shock and anxiety that has spread across the UK.

Witness accounts describe a chaotic scene where people tried to hide and flee amidst the violence. One passenger recounted seeing “blood everywhere” and the horrifying struggle between the attacker and others trying to protect themselves and fellow passengers. Witnesses also reported people hiding in toilets to escape the violence.

Huntingdon railway station remained cordoned off by police as investigations and emergency responses unfolded. Travel disruptions on the East Coast Mainline are anticipated to persist until at least Monday, with London North Eastern Railway advising passengers to defer their journeys if possible.

Defence Secretary John Healey acknowledged the incident’s seriousness in a Sky News interview, describing it as reflective of a “new era of threat” facing the UK. He emphasized the need for public caution while noting that police are working diligently to understand the nature of the attack. The national terrorism threat level remains classified as “substantial,” indicating that while attacks are likely, public risk remains manageable.

Local MP Ben Obese-Jecty condemned the event as “appalling and devastating,” underscoring the need for solidarity and support for the victims. Healey expressed gratitude for the quick response from the emergency services, who acted swiftly to assist those injured, possibly preventing even graver consequences.

As the investigation continues, authorities are urging anyone with additional information to come forward. The community is coming together to support the victims and their families during this difficult time, highlighting resilience in the face of adversity.
