Tobie Hatfield has embarked on an innovative project featuring former TCU quarterback Bram Kohlhausen, whose football career was abruptly halted by a helicopter crash in 2023. Rather than stepping away from sports altogether, Kohlhausen sought new avenues to stay active through design and performance adaptation.

Collaborating with Nike, Hatfield meticulously analyzed Kohlhausen’s movements to create custom Air Jordan 1s tailored specifically for golf. These sneakers incorporate a reinforced toe construction that not only serves an aesthetic purpose but also addresses real performance needs. This instance illustrates how sneaker modifications can transition from mere stylistic choices to essential adaptations for athletes.

The design process involved collaboration with Miles Custom Studio, which added personal symbols to the shoe’s upper, enhancing its individuality. The historical significance of the Air Jordan 1 platform adds an element of intention to this adaptation, transforming it from an experimental design into a meaningful tribute.

Kohlhausen is set to wear the custom Air Jordan 1 Lows as the Honorary Captain at the Alamo Bowl. Viewers will see these unique sneakers showcased on the field during the game tonight in San Antonio.
