The Indomitable Lionesses are set to arrive in Lagos on Friday evening after finalizing their travel arrangements late Thursday. The squad, comprising 19 players, includes talents from both the domestic league and players based abroad. They will head directly to their training base in Ijebu-Ode.
Originally, there were concerns regarding Cameroon’s participation due to ongoing administrative challenges within the Cameroonian Football Federation (FECAFOOT). Fortunately, those issues have been addressed, allowing the team to take on Nigeria in two important fixtures.
These matches are crucial for Nigeria as part of their preparations for the 2024 WAFCON in Morocco. The Super Falcons aim to secure a record-extending 10th title. Meanwhile, Cameroon’s involvement marks a new chapter for them as they prepare for the 2026 WAFCON qualifiers, following their absence from this year’s tournament.
The fixtures also rekindle a historic rivalry between the two nations. In their previous 20 meetings, Nigeria boasts 14 victories, while Cameroon has earned three wins, accompanied by three draws. In recent encounters, Nigeria has clearly been the stronger team, winning eight of the last eleven matches, including vital WAFCON and Olympic qualifiers.
The first match is scheduled for Saturday, May 31, at the Remo Stars Stadium in Ikenne, followed by a second match on Monday, June 3, at the MKO Abiola Stadium in Abeokuta. Fans will be able to catch the action as both matches will be produced by Team 33 and streamed on NFF TV, the official channel of the Nigeria Football Federation.
This development underscores the resilience of both teams in overcoming challenges and sets the stage for a thrilling display of football between two powerhouses in women’s sports.
