Nicole Curtis, the beloved star of HGTV’s “Rehab Addict,” is set to return for a new season on June 24 after a three-year break. This ninth season comes after a significant personal setback in her life, which Curtis describes as a moment that rocked her to the core. Although she remains private about the specifics, it prompted her to reassess her priorities and rekindle her passion for home restoration.
In an exclusive interview with PEOPLE, Curtis reflects on a spontaneous decision she made in July 2022 during a difficult time. Traveling from Detroit to the Greek island of Corfu, she accidentally left her wallet behind, leading to a series of unexpected events. Despite the chaos, including missing her connecting flight and needing to travel to Wyoming instead, Curtis embraced the challenges. She ended up purchasing a dilapidated 1890s home that required significant restoration efforts, marking a return to her HGTV roots.
The upcoming season will feature two main projects: the poorly flipped property in Wyoming and a Detroit house that has faced issues with squatters. Curtis describes this season as an “evolved version” of her show, stating that she has transitioned from the struggles she once faced as a younger mom. Yet, she aims to maintain the authenticity and spirit that old-school fans loved.
Notably, while familiar faces from her crew return, her family will have a less visible presence this time. Curtis emphasizes the importance of maintaining privacy for her sons, Ethan and Harper, acknowledging past lessons learned from their experiences in the spotlight.
In a delightful twist, Curtis shares how her sons inspired her to take part in a local monster truck rally in Wyoming, fulfilling a longtime dream. With the show’s premiere approaching, fans are eager to see how her challenging yet rewarding projects unfold.
“Rehab Addict” Season 9 premieres on HGTV at 9 p.m. June 24. Viewers can look forward to a blend of nostalgia and growth as Curtis navigates her new adventures both professionally and personally.
