Nicky Jam Backs Trump: What’s Behind the Controversial Endorsement?

Nicky Jam has officially thrown his support behind Donald Trump for the upcoming 2024 U.S. presidential election.

During a campaign rally held by the former president on September 13 at the World Market Center in Las Vegas, the 43-year-old reggaetón star took the stage to express his endorsement as Trump prepares to face off against Vice President Kamala Harris in the November election.

However, a slip-up occurred when Trump mistakenly referred to Nicky as “she” while introducing him to the audience. “Do you know Nicky? She’s hot. Where’s Nicky?” Trump said before finally recognizing the artist and correcting himself by saying, “Oh, look, I’m glad he came up,” as he patted Nicky’s shoulder.

Dressed in a black sweatshirt and a red “Make America Great Again” cap, Nicky then shared a few words with the crowd. “It’s an honor to meet you, Mr. President. People that come from where I come from, they don’t meet the president. So I’m lucky,” Nicky remarked, having moved from Massachusetts to Puerto Rico as a child. “We need you. We need you back, right? We need you to be the president.”

Nicky Jam joins a list of music stars supporting the 78-year-old former businessman in his re-election campaign. Recently, Puerto Rican reggaetón artists Anuel AA and Justin Quiles also backed Trump at a rally in Johnstown, Pennsylvania. Other musicians who have shown support include Jason Aldean, Kid Rock, Kodak Black, Lil Pump, Sexyy Red, and Billy Ray Cyrus.

In a recent interview, Nicky, who announced plans to “retire soon” last October, reflected on his future. “I’m not going to be a singer for the rest of my life,” he stated during a Zoom call from his home in Miami. “I think I’ll probably retire soon… Well, not retire. Singers never retire. You just tone it down.”

Nicky Jam released his sixth studio album, titled Insomnio, on September 6.
