The St. Louis Blues announced on Thursday that forward Mathieu Joseph has been placed on waivers, coinciding with the activation of Dylan Holloway from injured reserve. Joseph, 29, has had a modest season, recording two goals and 11 points across 39 games. With an expiring contract carrying a cap hit of $2.95 million, he is on the verge of unrestricted free agency.
In the previous season, Joseph contributed with four goals and 14 points in 60 games. He had a more productive year the season prior, achieving a career-high of 11 goals and 35 points in 72 games while playing for the Ottawa Senators. Selected as a fourth-round pick by the Tampa Bay Lightning in 2015, Joseph has accumulated 61 goals and 160 points in 459 career NHL games.
As the Blues welcome Holloway back, who had been sidelined since January 18 due to a lower-body injury, he adds another dynamic to their lineup. The 24-year-old winger has managed to score eight goals and 17 points in just 34 games this season.
The upcoming matchup for the Blues will be against the Seattle Kraken on Thursday, marking their return from the Olympic break. St. Louis currently finds themselves second-last in the Western Conference, trailing the final playoff spot by 14 points.
In a similar move, the Kraken also placed forward Tye Kartye on waivers on the same day. Kartye, 24, has recorded three goals and eight points in 40 games this season and previously achieved a career-high of 11 goals and 20 points in 77 games during the 2023-24 season.
Both teams are navigating their respective challenges as the season progresses, with hopes of revitalizing their rosters through the waiver process.
