NFL Star Lorenzo Carter Shocks Fans with Sudden Retirement at 29

Lorenzo Carter, a talented outside linebacker, has announced his retirement from the NFL at the age of 29. Mike Borgonzi, the General Manager for the Titans, confirmed the news through Terry McCormick. Carter’s football journey began when he was selected in the third round of the 2018 NFL Draft by the New York Giants after a solid collegiate career at the University of Georgia.

Carter completed a four-year rookie contract worth over $3.5 million, which included a signing bonus of just over $1 million. After his time with the Giants, he signed a one-year contract with the Atlanta Falcons in 2022 and later extended his stay there with a two-year deal. This past March, he joined the Tennessee Titans but will not take the field for the team.

Throughout his seven-season career span, Carter played in 96 games, starting in 62, and amassed impressive statistics that include 278 tackles, 21.5 sacks, and five forced fumbles, among other achievements. In 2024 alone, he started in 11 out of 13 games for the Falcons, demonstrating his capabilities as a reliable defender on the field.

Carter was also listed among the Top 100 Available Free Agents for the upcoming 2025 season, highlighting his value in the league before his unexpected retirement. While his career has come to an end, the impact he has made on his teams and his contributions on the field will not be forgotten.

This development emphasizes the unpredictable nature of professional sports, where even established players can decide to step away from the game without any prior warning. As we reflect on Carter’s contributions, we remain hopeful that his next steps will be fulfilling, whether they lead him back to football in a different capacity or to new adventures outside the sport.
