AJ McCarron, the former University of Alabama quarterback, has officially declared his candidacy for the position of Lieutenant Governor of Alabama. He launched his campaign with a focus on conservative values and emphasized his identity as a political outsider.

In a recent campaign video, McCarron reflects on his successful football career, which includes winning consecutive national championships under renowned coach Nick Saban and competing in the NFL. He believes the leadership lessons he learned on the field are directly applicable to public governance. “Coach Saban taught me the principles of being a leader,” McCarron stated, highlighting how these experiences have motivated him to seek public office.

The impetus for McCarron’s decision to enter politics stems from what he perceives as growing threats to Alabama’s conservative and cultural values. In light of recent events, including the assassination of conservative activist Charlie Kirk, he expressed a desire to take action, stating, “I felt led to get off the sidelines and get into the game.”

Positioning himself as a newcomer to the political scene, McCarron has been critical of what he calls “Montgomery insiders and career politicians.” He believes that it is time for new leadership that prioritizes faith and traditional values, asserting, “The insiders have had their chance. It’s time for outsider candidates like me to lead the battle.”

McCarron has previously shown support for Donald Trump during the 2016 presidential election, admiring Trump’s outsider approach. He promises to collaborate closely with Governor Tommy Tuberville, likening his role to that of a quarterback who will help advance a conservative agenda.

Reflecting on his commitment to Alabama, McCarron expressed a deep connection to his home state. “Alabama is my home. It’s made me who I am, and I feel led from above to give back to the state that has given me so much,” he declared. His campaign slogan, “AJ for LG,” cleverly ties together his football legacy and his ambition to become lieutenant governor, signaling an eagerness to serve and lead Alabama into the future.
