NFL Fines Giants, Daboll and Skattebo Over Concussion Protocol Breach

The NFL has taken disciplinary action against the New York Giants organization, issuing a $200,000 fine this week for breaching concussion protocols during their Week 6 match against the Philadelphia Eagles. This penalty follows a joint investigation conducted with the NFL Players Association (NFLPA).

Accompanying the team fine, head coach Brian Daboll was penalized $100,000, while rookie running back Cam Skattebo faced a $15,000 fine. The infractions related to both Daboll and Skattebo entering the designated medical evaluation area while rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart was being assessed for a potential concussion. Skattebo addressed the situation, expressing relief that Dart was healthy and indicating his acceptance of the league’s decision: “I don’t really got any comments. I’m just glad Jaxson’s healthy. They took action; it’s over with.”

However, Skattebo’s issues with the NFL did not end there. He received an additional fine of $6,157 for “unnecessary roughness” during the fourth quarter of a Week 7 loss to the Denver Broncos. This infraction, described as “striking/kicking/tripping/kneeing,” occurred during Dart’s interception, but no penalty was called during the game.

Furthermore, running back Tyrone Tracy Jr. was also fined $5,731 for “unnecessary roughness” related to the “use of the helmet” early in the same game against the Broncos. This amount marks Tracy’s first fine of the season and stems from a two-yard run on first-and-10 that similarly went unpenalized on the field.

These developments underscore the NFL’s commitment to enforcing player safety protocols and maintaining the integrity of the game, even as players face the consequences of their actions on the field.
