One of junior golf’s most significant events, the 49th Junior PGA Championships, is set to unfold at Purdue University’s Birck Boilermaker Golf Complex from July 29 to August 1. This premier tournament is open to young amateur golfers aged 18 and under as of August 1, 2025, who have qualified through a PGA of America Section Championship or received an exemption.
Over four days, 312 players—156 girls and 156 boys—will compete in a 72-hole championship format. The competition will involve a 36-hole cut for the lowest 60 players and ties on July 30, followed by a 54-hole cut for the low 30 players and ties on July 31. The prestigious event will take place on Purdue’s Ackerman-Allen & Kampen-Cosler Courses.
The girls’ division boasts outstanding talent, featuring nine of the top 20 junior players from the Rolex American Junior Golf Association Rankings, including notable players like No. 2 Asterisk Talley, No. 5 Yujie Liu, and No. 6 Anna Fang. The boys’ division is also competitive, with nine top-ranked junior players including No. 3 Luke Colton, No. 7 Giuseppe Puebla, and No. 8 Jessy Huebner. Additionally, Charlie Woods, son of legendary golfer Tiger Woods, is in the lineup following his victory at the 2025 Team TaylorMade Invitational.
The tournament will include 22 players hailing from the host Indiana PGA Section, further enriching the competitive landscape.
Historically, the Junior PGA Championships have served as an important platform for future golf stars, including household names like Tiger Woods, Jordan Spieth, and Scottie Scheffler. For this year’s participants, the stakes are high, as the winners and runners-up from both divisions will earn spots on the 2025 U.S. Junior Ryder Cup Team, set to take place at Nassau Country Club and Bethpage Black in New York.
The 2025 champions will also receive valuable exemptions to prestigious events such as the Augusta National Women’s Amateur (girls only), the Junior Invitational at Sage Valley, and the newly established exemption for the boys’ division winner to the Tulum Championship on the Korn Ferry Tour.
With the previous Junior PGA Championships held at Congressional Country Club, where Avery McCrery and Baylor Larrabee claimed the girls’ and boys’ titles respectively, this year’s event promises to elevate the competition and showcase the next generation of golfing talent.
The Junior PGA Championships not only celebrate established achievements but also emphasize the potential of young athletes to become future icons in the sport. As these young golfers step onto the course, they carry with them the hopes of their families, communities, and the future of golf.
