“Next Gen Rising: Can Alcaraz and Sinner Rewrite Tennis History?”

Goran Ivanisevic has expressed his belief that Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner are in a prime position to dominate the Grand Slam tournaments more easily than the legendary “Big Three” of tennis—Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, and Novak Djokovic. With Alcaraz recently securing his fifth Grand Slam title at the French Open and Sinner claiming his third major at the Australian Open earlier this year, the two players have collectively earned the last six Grand Slam titles, splitting them evenly with three each.

Sinner, who currently holds the world No. 1 ranking, has captured two Australian Open titles along with a US Open title, while Alcaraz, ranked second, boasts victories at Wimbledon and the French Open, alongside a maiden title at the US Open. As they head into the 2025 Wimbledon Championships, Alcaraz will be looking to win his third consecutive title, while Sinner aims for his first.

In an interview, Ivanisevic highlighted the challenges posed by Novak Djokovic, expressing that the 23-time Grand Slam winner remains the primary competitor for Alcaraz and Sinner. He emphasized the youth of both players, predicting that they will be competing at the highest level for another decade.

“The question is how much longer Novak will play—he’s the only one who can make their lives difficult,” Ivanisevic stated. “They have no competition, which makes it easier for them.”

Ivanisevic further discussed the potential for Alcaraz and Sinner to break records previously held by the Big Three, as he remarked that while he is uncertain if they will catch up to their Grand Slam tally, he believes records are meant to be broken.

He also expressed optimism about emerging talents in tennis, specifically mentioning Jakub Mensik and Joao Fonseca. Ivanisevic praised Fonseca’s fearless approach and potential to eventually become a Grand Slam winner, despite acknowledging the challenging environment shaped by Alcaraz and Sinner’s dominance.

The sentiments expressed by Ivanisevic indicate a hopeful future for tennis, as fresh talent emerges while the current stars continue to thrive, ensuring that the sport remains competitive and exciting.
