CHICAGO – In a thrilling debut for the Chicago White Sox, Adrian Houser delivered a standout performance after signing a one-year, $1.35 million contract with the team. Making a significant impression, Houser pitched six scoreless innings in a tense 1-0 victory against the Seattle Mariners, marking his first Major League start since May 2024.
The encounter was memorable not only for the nail-biting outcome but also for the collaborative efforts between Houser and rookie catcher Edgar Quero. The two quickly established a rapport, enabling Houser to execute a strategy that resulted in a strong performance on the mound. “We talked pregame, did the whole pitcher-catcher meeting,” Houser noted.
Prior to his stint with the White Sox, Houser had been with Triple-A Round Rock in Texas, where he accumulated a 2-2 record and a 5.03 ERA before being released. His determination to continue competing in the majors was evident, as he expressed gratitude for the opportunity to contribute to his new team. “These opportunities don’t come very often, so you don’t want to fumble it,” he said.
Manager Will Venable praised Houser’s approach, highlighting his effectiveness with both two-seam and four-seam fastballs, coupled with strategic double plays that aided the team’s defense. The win was a relief for the White Sox, who managed to break a five-game losing streak and avert a historically poor start to the season.
To accommodate Houser in the rotation, Bryse Wilson was moved back to the bullpen after struggling with a 6.62 ERA in his prior starts. Additionally, the White Sox restructured their roster by designating right-hander Yoendrys Gómez for assignment.
As the team looks to build on this victory, the mood is optimistic. “Being able to get back up here and help to contribute to the team and help to win tonight is really nice,” Houser expressed, signaling a hopeful outlook for his future with the White Sox and the rest of the season ahead.
